The Litigation Support team at SMK consists of the company’s senior analysts, including a full-time designated litigation expert, and is supported by a staff of professional and administrative personnel. The firm makes extensive use of valuation and marketplace data available from both our own internally generated volume of work, and from data suppliers such as Standard & Poor’s Research Insight and Value Line Investment Survey, among others. The firm library also contains information tracking case law, valuation theories and various industry statistics.
Our team has experience in federal court, tax court, bankruptcy court, and numerous and various state jurisdictions. Our experts have also valued equity interests or assessed economic damages for mediation and arbitration hearings, including U.S. Justice Department deliberations. Recently Joseph Sharp, a 33-year veteran with the Internal Revenue Service, joined SMK exclusively to assist in tax related controversies and disputes.
In addition to deposition and trial witness testimony, the firm also provides valuation and support consultation services in contested matters. These engagements are centered on developing strategy relative to existing appraisals from other sources, examining and attacking opposing valuation arguments, and devising exhibits or displays useful in the trial process.
The substantial annual volume of appraisal engagements performed by SMK (over 300 annually) provides a solid foundation of practical experience and in-depth industry knowledge which can be applied in all types of litigated matters.
